Founded by award-winning interior designer Holly Houndstooth, our Taupō-based studio has become known for creating bold, layered and emotionally driven interiors that challenge the way people perceive colour, texture and storytelling within a space. Working across the Central North Island and beyond, we specialise in both residential and commercial interiors, delivering projects that are deeply personal, highly functional, and visually unforgettable.

With a background spanning upholstery, furniture design, visual arts and interior design, Holly brings a uniquely multidisciplinary approach to every project. Her work is recognised for its fearless use of colour, curated detail, and ability to blend artistry with practicality in a way that feels both elevated and deeply human.

Over recent years, Houndstooth Interiors has gained national attention through a growing portfolio of high-profile projects, including the widely celebrated Starlight Cinema fit-out, a project locally renowned for pushing creative boundaries and redefining what commercial interiors can feel like in regional New Zealand. The studio’s work has since been featured across multiple media platforms and publications, including the Sunday Star Times and New Zealand House & Garden, helping cement Houndstooth Interiors as one of New Zealand’s emerging creative design voices.

From architectural new builds and hospitality spaces through to layered residential renovations and bespoke room transformations, our projects are united by a common philosophy: spaces should tell stories. We design interiors that feel collected, expressive and timeless rather than trend-driven, with an emphasis on atmosphere, individuality and thoughtful detail.

Our studio is proudly based in Taupō, where clients can explore an ever-evolving collection of textiles, wallpapers, materials and furnishings in a welcoming and highly creative environment. While our roots are local, our projects span across the North Island, collaborating closely with homeowners, developers, builders and businesses to bring visionary spaces to life.
